Welcome to the web page of the

Joint Research Activity ULISINT

"Integration of ultra-light silicon tracking and vertex detection systems for frontier precision experiments"
within the EU-FP7 Project HadronPhysics3 "Study of strongly interacting matter"

Project Details

Duration: 01/01/2012 - 31/12/2014

Participants

GSI Darmstadt (J. Heuser, spokesperson), INFN Torino (A. Rivetti), GUF Frankfurt (J. Stroth), and technology partners: SE SRTIIE Kharkov (V. Borshchov), INR Kiev (V. Pugatch), IMEC Leuven (P. De Moor)

Research Objective

The Joint Research Activity ULISINT covers three fields of large-area tracking and vertex detectors, each of them backbones of the upcoming CBM and PANDA experiments at the international research facility FAIR under construction in Darmstadt, Germany:

  • a thin fast micro-strip tracking detector system for large-area coverage
  • a thin fast hybrid pixel detector system for tracking in very high particle densities
  • an ultra-thin monolithic pixel detector system with very high spatial resolution for decay vertex identification.

ULISINT is a successor of the research activity ULISI that has been completed in HadronPhysics2. While ULISI focused on the development of the thin detector technologies themselves, the demonstration of their integration into complete systems usable for hadron physics experiments is the research aim of the current activity.
